Mets sign Kevin Appier for 4 years, $42 million

The Mets did it again.  Just as they did with John Franco, they gave too many years to a guy you can’t give too many years to.  Appier’s right arm is a time-bomb waiting to happen, and the Mets gave him a 4-year deal.  Yes, the Mets desperately needed somebody, but they needed to add that somebody through a trade instead of a move such as this.  Appier also wears out a bullpen as he cannot go long into games as other starters of his price range do.  As long as he’s healthy he’s a quality starter, which is the only positive of this move.  But how long do any of us believe he’ll be healthy?
