Angels sign Jorge Fabregas for 1 year,
$500,000
This is a solid move for the Angels, who are
owned by Disney and inexplicably have no money to spend.
Not only does signing the 30-year old Fabregas (is he really
that old already?) fill the backup catcher's spot on the
roster, but it also saves almost a half-million dollars over
the older, weaker-hitting incumbent, Matt Walbeck.
Fabregas is only a career .249 hitter, but he did hit .288 in
limited duty last season, his highest average since his first
year in the bigs - with Anaheim in '94. This move should
work out pretty well for both sides.
