Diamondbacks sign Mark Grace for 2
years, $6 million
This is a very questionable move. The bankrupt
Diamondbacks add another aging veteran to their team. Grace
will fit right in with their other stars as most of them are on the
wrong end of 35. In 510 at bats last season, Grace hit .280,
with a .394 OBP, .429 slugging, 11 HR, and 82 RBI. In a
comparable 525 at-bats last season, the D-Backs platoon of Greg
Colbrunn and Erubial Durazo hit .295, with a .393 OBP, .493
slugging, 23 HR, and 90 RBI. While Grace plays a little better
defense than the two the D-Backs already had, they will have a drop
off in offense at first base, and are paying free agent money to do
so. The team surely doesnt need veteran leadership, if
anything they need a boost of youth. This is a bad move by an
organization that may take a very large fall very quickly.
