A's trade for Aaron Harang and Ryan Cullen

The A's are prepared to give the second base job to Frank Menechino or Jose Ortiz, so the loss of Velarde isn't particularly severe. In return they get two solid minor league pitchers - Harang is 22-7 over his past two seasons, and Cullen is only 20 and has been striking out Class A hitters like mad. On the downside, neither pitcher has reached the AA level yet, and minor-league pitchers are notoriously risky propositions. Overall, however, the upside is big, and the loss of Velarde is a risk the A's are willing to take.
