Mariners sign Jeff Nelson for 3 years, $11 million

This is a strong move for the Mariners.  Nelson was one of the reasons the Mariners defeated the Yankees in the '95 playoffs and has been one of the reasons the Yankees have been so successful since then.  While the Phillies overpay for bad relievers, the Mariners correctly paid for one of the top set-up men in the game.  The Mariner rotation doesn't have big inning guys so having a deep strong pen will be imperative for their success.  Nelson will help out tremendously with that.
