White Sox re-sign Jose Valentin for 3 years, $15 million

This is a smart move for the White Sox.  Instead of riding the slim chance of getting Alex Rodriguez they assure themselves stability at the shortstop position by retaining Jose Valentin.  Valentin had a huge year last season, batting .273 with 25 home runs and 92 RBI, which earned him a 3-year deal worth $5 annually.  He turned down larger offers, most notably from the Orioles, to remain with the White Sox.  What’s even better about this move is they did not close out that slim chance of getting A-Rod, as with the signing of Valentin, they made it clear he could be moved to second base (with Ray Durham going to center field) if they were able to land Rodriguez.  This is a good move for the White Sox and gives them a bit more stability going into the rest of the off-season.
