Yankees sign Mike Mussina for 6 years, $88.5 million

The Yankees did it again: they wanted somebody and got him.  The Yankees made Mike Mussina their number one off-season priority, and did exactly what was necessary to get him.  The Yankees add Mussina to a staff that includes Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, and Orlando Hernandez and gives the Yankees by far the best pitching staff in the American League.  This move greatly enhances their chances of winning their 4th straight title. This is a wonderful move as the 32-year old Mussina is one of the league's premier pitchers. Last year he finished first in the AL in innings pitched, and third in both strikeouts and ERA.  The only negative to the move is the Yankees had to give him a 6th year.  This means Mussina will be making over $14 million as a 37-year old pitcher and it's very possible that he won't be nearly as effective anymore.  If not for the 6th year, this move would have been TripleSteal's first Grand Slam, but it will have to settle for being the first home run.
